several close ups of some of my paintings

What have I been upto?

Well. I have recentley been very sick, which was a big worry for me - in a week I shall start preparing for my degree show; for this, along with two other helpers, I shall be painting and preparing an alocated space to present my paintings. The degree show is like a giant exhibition for all third year artists at Northumbria and gives us our final degree mark. Luckily i’m feeling much better, though I have a lot to catch up on.

I plan to display four paintings for my degree show, ‘Please Do Not Disarticulate’ is one, and three others that I have yet to title (close up of one seen above). I still need to finish one painting and have three days to do this…and I really want to work on finishing the detail in my paintings. In fact, I probably have less than three days, since I need to clean out my space at some point.

So University is almost over…I can’t believe it. Where did the three years go?

If you are interested, please keep an eye out on my blog for more photos of my latest paintings, as well as photographs of the final degree show. Hope everyone is well!

Daenerys Targaryen - Game of Thrones

I never really get the chance to draw anything for fun these days, so as i’m newly obsessed with Game of Thrones I was particularly inspired by this still of Daenerys, the scene where she emerges from the flames.

WIP painting, inspired by an anatomy photograph

I have so much work to do before my degree show that i’m surprised I haven’t exploded with stress!

As well as this, I want to make two more paintings in the next 4 weeks…lets see what happens.

My paintings in the recent exhibition ‘Self’

The exhibition went fantastic! Set up was great and we had a lot of interest from the general public. Several members of the public have expressed interest in purchasing my paintings which is just fantastic! Seeing people observing and thinking about the work makes it all worth while.

I’m in The Journal!!! article here: http://tinyurl.com/d6uar6r

Wow, I’m so happy! I’ve been in touch with their arts editor David Whetstone and he agreed to publish an article about a group exhibition i’m involved in called ‘Self’. Ever so kindly he has mentioned quite a lot about my work. So not only am I blessed to share another one of my nanas birthdays today with her, but this has happened to! What a great day!

WIP anatomy drawing of half of the human face and shoulder resting on a table.

‘Branch’ (WIP) 6’ x 5’, Oil on canvas, 2013

A current painting that shall soon be exhibited in an ex-catalogue shop in Whitley Bay. I definitely have a love/hate relationship with the majority of my paintings and for most of this paintings progress I have disliked it. Inspired by anatomy drawings and a discussion overheard in the Newcastle anatomy labs. I’m not too sure about the bottom right area as I feel it should be darker, but we shall see.

Untitled as of yet, WIP oil painting, 6’ x 5’

I knew I wanted to create a white painting before I began this piece. Inspired by a previous drawing I have posted (link here: http://24.media.tumblr.com/14155f2726386f10395342977c04267d/tumblr_mj3out3TWK1rzndzdo1_500.jpg) I used this drawing as a base, as well as several sketches of human teeth. The contrast of clinical anatomy labs and decomposing corpses was quite an inspiriation here also. Various resins and texture paste have also been used.

This piece, along with another painting I shall upload a photograph of soon, have been chosen for an exhibition! It shall be in Whitley Bay, fairly close to my hometown. I’m extremley excited. More to come on this!

Thanks for looking!

Two close ups of a WIP painting…once again, i’m absolutely hating what i’m painting, but definitely not letting it get the better of me, I will NOT give up!

So far this painting has been inspired by my anatomy room drawings and the colours found in flesh and decomposing flesh. Though bright and beautiful, the subject i’m focusing on is death and our own fear of mortality.

This canvas is 6’ x 5’, i’m going to turn it on its head and see if I can learn to like it!

A detailed anatomy drawing of a section of the face, 2013 (eye area removed on Photoshop for privacy purposes)

This took me about 4/5 hours and is inspiring a current painting of mine. As I usually do quick sketches it was much more interesting to spend time examining all the elements of the face.

On a related note, I have an exhibition coming up at the end of April/beginning of May! I shall keep you guys updated on this. I am extremely excited for this opportunity!

Hope everyone is well.
